Winchester’s Low Cost Christmas campaign advises shoppers to spend wisely this Christmas as online and high street retailers are gearing up for Black Friday on 27 November, when UK shoppers are expected to spend £5 billion on discount Christmas gifts.
To prevent Black Friday craziness, savvy shoppers are urged to use these five simple tips to bag a bargain without waste.
Before you go out:
“There are some wonderful bargains around and we want people to make the most of the great shopping in Winchester. But it is all too easy to overspend on things you don’t need in the heat of the moment when it looks like a bargain” says Susie Phillips of The Great Waste Campaign. “It’s a shame to create unnecessary waste”.
Cllr Frank Pearson, the City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment, Health & Wellbeing, stated:
“Winchester city centre and surrounding market towns like Bishop’s Waltham, Wickham and Alresford offer the perfect Christmas shopping experience, without all the madness of Black Friday. We would always encourage people to shop local and really enjoy the atmosphere. But for those on a budget, these are really sensible shopping rules for a happy and affordable Christmas.”
